Inappropriate leaders responsible for national predicament, says Jega
Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has said that lack of good leadership responsible for the state of affairs in Nigeria.
He said Nigerians had been recruiting, appointing and electing inappropriate leaders, thereby putting round pegs in square holes.
This, he said, had been undermining, rather than strengthening governance, democratic and development processes.
Jega said this during the pre-Ramadan lecture organised by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) with the theme, “Leadership Recruitment – The Missing Anchor in Our National Development,” at main auditorium of the institution in Akoka.
Leadership recruitment process, he said, is central to entrenching good governance and resolving poor governance.
He, therefore, reiterated the need for Nigerians to address the crisis of leadership by improving the recruitment process, which must be done latest by 2023.
