Imo State Branch of National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) has pledged to partner the state government to guarantee adequate security for citizens and residents, especially during the yuletide.

Chairman of the branch, Samuel Udeh, who disclosed this, during a briefing in Owerri, yesterday, reiterated his leadership’s commitment to restore sanity in the operation of his members.

Udeh said the main objective of the union was to serve as a viable partner in progress and overall development of the state and the people, especially in the transport sector.

He also debunked the allegation that some of his members indulged in illegal activities including extortion of money from the commercial drivers and causing breach of law and order in the state.

The NURTW boss extolled Governor Hope Uzodimma for confidence reposed in him to pilot the affairs of the union and promised to deliver to expectations.

He finally solicited the support of media practitioners in efforts towards eradicating miscreants and infiltrators among the members as well as repositioning the union for effective service delivery.

“The Imo State branch has over 25,000 members and all of us are committed under my leadership to assist the state government led by Sen. Hope Uzodimma to combat insecurity and restore sanity in our general operations in the state.

“We are not ignorant of the activities of distractors and miscreants, but we are poised to deliver to the best of our ability for the general good of the state.”
