The Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) has called on the National Assembly to domesticate the nation’s building code to check the frequent collapse of structures nationwide.

Its President, Kenneth Nnabuife-Nduka, submitted that the rampant caving in of houses was due to lack of a statutory code to apportion punishment to offenders.

Speaking yesterday in Port Harcourt during the 49th Builders’ Conference and Annual General Meeting, Nnabuife-Nduka maintained that the enforcement of the set of laws would contain the menace of building collapse once and for all.

He also appealed to the three tiers of government to address the nation’s pervasive insecurity for more investments to come into the country.

The NIOB president regretted that no single institution in Rivers State offers to build as a course despite the high job-creating potential of the industry.
