The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) has urged the state government to consider the interest of private sector dynamics in the appointment of commissioners and advisers in critical areas of economic in the state.
Besides, the Kano Chamber sought the restoration and recognition of the chapter in the rightful position within the Nigerian Association of Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
KACCIMA President, Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma made the appeal Wednesday at the opening of 1st Quarter Council Meeting of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) holding in Kano.
Amb.Darma explained the significance role of the private sector to the trade, investment and economic development in the state implied that government should consider expertise of next commissioner for commerce in private sector before the appointment.
The President of the Chamber stressed that the choice of commissioner in charge of trade and investment facilitation remains a critical factor to Kano’s economic revival insisted such position should not be left in the hands of person who does not understand the market environment.
Darma, said the state requires a commissioner with a strong and active private sector background to effectively drive investment, industrialisation and job creation. He called for a technocrat with proven business experience that would enhance policy coherence and ensure that government interventions reflect real sector dynamics.
According to him, a closer collaboration between government and the business community would strengthen public-private partnerships and position Kano as a more competitive investment destination.
He commended the Kano State Government for its ongoing engagement with the private sector but stressed the need to institutionalise such cooperation, especially in key economic ministries.
On the board of NACCIMA, Darma explained that KACCIMA required appropriate and commensurate representation within the organs and structure of NACCIMA especially it’s full inclusion in Council deliberation and membership of committees where key decision decisions are determined.
The President emphasized that KACCIMA’s requests are guided by the principles of fairness, and institutional balance to collectively strength the association.
“The Ministry of Commerce and Investment plays a pivotal role in shaping the state’s economic direction. It is essential that its leadership understands the realities of enterprise development and investment promotion,” he said.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya pledged government commitment to create enabling environment and support for trade, commerce and investment opportunities.
