Kastina: Terrorists kill two as police rescue 18 persons

Two people were killed, while one sustained injury when terrorists attacked Baushe, Gatakawa community in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State.

Spokesperson for Katsina State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Gambo Isah, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the terrorists attacked the community on Thursday morning with automatic weapons but that the police was able to repel them.

He stressed that 18 persons, including women and a child, were rescued from their terrorists’ abductors.

“On October 12, 2022 at about 0100hrs, a distress call was received that terrorists on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, attacked Baushe, Gatakawa village, Kankara council.

“On receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kankara Division, led tactical units to the area and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel.

“The team successfully repelled the terrorists from their heinous mission and rescued all the kidnapped victims.

“In the course of scanning the scene, five motorcycles and two cows were recovered.

“Sadly, two villagers were killed and one was injured by the terrorists.

“It is feared that many terrorists were neutralised and/or escaped the scene with gunshot wounds. Investigation is ongoing,” Isah added.
