Kidnappers free Calabar RCCG pastor, two others
The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the release of kidnapped Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor and two others kidnapped on Saturday in Calabar, the state capital.
The pastor, Sunday Adeniran, and a female teacher were whisked away by unknown gunmen in the early hours of Saturday. It was gathered that the kidnappers entered the pastor’s house through the ceiling.
They were released at 2.00 am on Monday around Scanobo filling station, Ikot Ekpo, eight miles on the outskirts of Calabar after making an initial demand of N7 million, following pressure from the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad led by SP Awodi.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, had directed men of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad (AKCS) to secure the release of the victims.
She commended the AKCS squad and urged the public to cooperate with the police by giving useful information about happenings in their environment.
“It was a direct order by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aminu Alhassan, to men of the AKCS and they acted swiftly to secure the release of the victims.
“They knew that the Dragon Squad was closing in on them and they hurriedly collected N200, 000 instead of N7 million which was their initial demand, and let their victims go.
“I want to commend the swift action of SP Awodi and his Dragon Squad, their efforts yielded results and in time to, the victim is now in safe hands.
“I want to also appeal to the public not to wait until something happens before they report, they should always report strange movement to curb this kind of ugly incident,” she said.
