The Shehu Mohammed faction of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has called off its ongoing strike across all 117 Federal Unity Schools countrywide and directed affected teachers and other members to resume duty immediately.

The decision followed a meeting held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Kano City, Kano State, between the leadership of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), ASCSN and the zonal coordinators of the Federal Unity Schools to review the ongoing industrial action.

According to the union, the meeting considered the communiqué earlier signed by the labour side, comprising TUC and ASCSN, and the Federal Ministry of Education, as well as the concession agreement involving King’s College, Lagos and the King’s College Old Boys Association (KCOBA).

In a communiqué issued on Wednesday, the unions resolved to suspend the strike to allow a seven-member high-level committee to review the concession document.

The decision followed the Federal Government’s suspension of the concession of King’s College, Lagos, pending the outcome of the committee’s review.

ASCSN disclosed that two of its representatives are members of the seven-member committee constituted to review the concession agreement.

The communiqué, signed following the Kano meeting, stated that the zonal coordinators of the Unity Schools agreed with the national leadership of ASCSN that the strike should be suspended immediately while awaiting the report of the committee.

In a separate notice dated September 23, 2026, and signed by the ASCSN Secretary-General, Joshua Apebo, the union formally directed its members in all Federal Unity Colleges to return to their respective schools.

The notice stated: “In view of the above, the ongoing strike at the Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria is hereby suspended.”

ASCSN, however, clarified that the suspension of the strike does not constitute a permanent termination of the industrial action. The union warned that the strike could be resumed at any time without further notice, depending on developments arising from the committee’s review and subsequent directives from its national leadership.

The TUC was represented at the meeting by its Secretary-General, Comrade Nuhu Toho, while ASCSN was led by its National President, Comrade Shehu Mohammed, alongside members of its Central Working Committee and the zonal coordinators of the Federal Unity Schools.

Recall that although the Innocent Bola-Audu-led ASCSN had earlier called off its industrial action, the Muhammad faction insisted that it would not back down and directed Unity Colleges to down tools indefinitely.

With this development, academic activities for the 2026/2027 session which ought to have commenced on September 13 are expected to kick off immediately across all Unity Schools.

As of the time of filing this report, the Parent-Teacher Associations of Federal Government College, Warri; Federal Government Boys College, Apo have asked parents/guardians to bring their students to resume on Sunday, 27th September, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. for check-in.
