Kogi Ctate Chairman of the Academic staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Ojo Ranti, has urged the state government to declare emergency in secondary education in the state to avert the dangers ahead.

Ranti stated this while speaking at this year’s World Teacher’s day in Lokoja, saying the call became necessary since over 90 per cent of schools in the state have deficient infrastructure, poor or non-existent laboratories, libraries without books and shortage of teachers in all public schools. He told the running mate to Governor Yayaha Bello and Chief of Staff to the governor, Edward Onoja, that the state of schools in the state calls for urgent attention from the government for the sake of future generations. He lamented that instructional materials were no longer recognised, while sports and extracurricular activities have been forgotten as part of schools necessities for a long time.
