Kogi Speaker challenges women to believe in themselves

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly Rt.Hon. Umar Imam has challenged women to see the quest for elective positions as a serious mater by investing their time and resources to achieve success.

Imam spoke through Mr. Victor Omofaiye, member representing Ijumu state constituency at Kogi House of Assembly yesterday at an advocacy meeting with stakeholders towards the enactment of gender sensitive laws in Kogi State to mark the 2017 International Women Day. Imam was speaking against the backdrop that women are the architects of their misfortunes in the political arena, as they don’t usually support themselves when the ships are down.

Citing the example of Sara Jubril who contested for the PDP presidential primary in 2011 and scored just one vote, he blamed women for not even believing in themselves. He said some women have the wherewithal but are reluctant to spend saying if women are sincere about their ambition to win elective position and they really spent their money they would always get it.

Wife of Kogi Governor, Mrs. Rashidat Bello on the other hand advocated for the domestication of the Gender and Equal Opportunity and Violence Against Persons Prohibition Laws to be enforced in the state.
