Kwara gov orders probe of ‘Shonga flooding’
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ordered a probe into the flooding of several rice farmlands in Shonga, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The committee, led by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Princess Bukola Babalola, will be assisted by the commissioners for Agriculture, Water Resources, and Environment, as well as the Special Adviser on Special Duties and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Security to the Governor, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu.
A statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, also stated that a director in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (Secretary), and the state Social Investment Programme, made the list.
The statement read: “The committee is to visit the affected areas on a fact-finding mission, where it will deliver the government’s condolence message to His Royal Highness Emir of Shonga Dr. Haliru Yahyah Ndanusa (OON) and the victims.”
Scores of residents were reported to have been rendered homeless and displaced by the flooding, which is said to have sacked no fewer than four villages.
