Kwara Poly @50: Scholar tasks alumni to raise the bar of excellence
A scholar, Olusola Adekanola, has urged alumni associations to raise the bar of greatness and excellence. He also advised Nigerians to prepare ahead for their retirement and be watchful of their lifestyles.
Adekanola, who was the guest speaker at the 50th Anniversary of Kwara State Polytechnic, spoke on: ‘The Post Retirement Lifestyle and Investment Options: Being the Supplement For Alumni Association to Raise The Bar Of Greatness And Excellence”.
He advised the Kwara Poly alumni to invest wisely, both in human development and businesses, adding that blaming the government for their inability to succeed would not help them to achieve greatness.
“Don’t justify mediocre, believe in success. Stop complaining. Stop alleviating the stress of failure. Read a biography of someone who is or was extremely rich and successful. Use their story for inspiration, for learning specific success strategies, and most importantly for copying their mindset.”
He added: “Act in-spite of fear. The biggest mistake many people make is waiting fear to disappear before they act. These people usually wait forever. Be unstoppable:
Adekanola further urged them to consult experts, who can educate them the type of investment they can make to secure their future.
“Post-retirement lifestyle and investment options would be the supplement for alumni associations to raise the bar of greatness and excellence, if alumni members can take necessary action.
The average person has roughly 20 years of life remaining after retirement time enough to write a masterpiece, run a marathon or mentor hundreds of youths. There is even time to do nothing, discover the beauty of grandkids, or rekindle the romance of long relationship. For those of us that are retired, while we continue to enjoy this new milestone of life, I will implore us to take action now,” he concluded.
