Lagos court remands man for assaulting 21-year-old girl sexually in school library
A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, yesterday, remanded a man, Babatunde Fashogbon, for allegedly abusing a 21-year-old girl sexually, in a school library.
The trial judge, Abiola Soladoye ordered that Fashogbon (defendant) be remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending the commencement of his trial.
The judge ordered his remand after he pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on rape, sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration. His offences contravene Sections 260, 261 and 263 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Following his plea, the state counsel, Ms Abimbola Abolade, prayed the court for trial date.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant assaulted the 21-year-old girl by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her on March 21, 2022, during school hour in the library of Opebi Secondary School, Ikeja.
Abolade told the court that the defendant sexually assaulted the survivor by fondling her breast and inserting his penis into her mouth.
However, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Pedro Lawal (SAN), pleaded for quick trial date in the interest of justice. The trial judge, subsequently adjourned to January 16, 2023.
