The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, has empowered 500 residents of Lagos Island, calling for increased support for the less privileged in society.
Giwa said the gesture was aimed at institutionalising empathy, equity and measurable social impact, particularly for vulnerable groups. The empowerment programme was held at Eleganza Hall, Dumaresq, Lagos Island, where each beneficiary received N50,000, with assurances that more employment-related projects would be undertaken.
“This is purely giving back to my constituents and the main focus is members of the All Progressives Congress. The party has done well for me. This is my own way of appreciating the people of my constituency for their support,” he said.
Giwa explained that the initial plan was to support 200 beneficiaries but the number was increased to 500 to encourage wider participation.
One of the beneficiaries, Gbemisola Omobolawa, said the support would make a significant difference.
“This will go a long way in meeting some of our business needs or paying a child’s school fees. I appreciate Mr Giwa for the support. I hope other well-to-do members of society will emulate him by reaching out to people in need,” she said.
