The member representing Karim Lamido, Ardo-Kola and Lau Federal Constituency, Audu Lauya, has condemned the violence that erupted in Gwomu community of Bikwin ward in Karim Lamido Local Council of Taraba State, which left no fewer than three people dead and widespread destruction across several villages.
Local accounts said that in the incident, which escalated on Thursday, Bobbo, Weyam, and Bakau, all located within the Gwomu Bayan Dutse axis of the local government area, were burnt.
They explained that consequently, hundreds of residents have fled their homes, with many of the displaced persons now taking refuge in neighbouring Bambuka, Dadiya, Loh and Panya, among others.
Lauya described the violent clash, which reportedly involved suspected herders and residents, as “deeply saddening.” he called on the security agencies to urgently restore order in the affected areas, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice.
The lawmaker further appealed for calm among residents of Karim Lamido, warning against retaliatory actions. He emphasised that repeated violence will only worsen hardship in the region, while dialogue and cooperation remain critical to achieving lasting peace.
Meanwhile, the residents have raised concerns over the delayed response and the safety of vulnerable communities, decrying the absence of security operatives from the onset of the violence through the following morning.
