Let’s harness cultural heritage for national development —NICO
The Executive Secretary of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Ado Muhammed Yahuza, has reiterated the need to utilise culture heritages in the country for national development.
Yahuza said this, yesterday, at a two-day zonal conference on Culture, Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIP) and National Development held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He disclosed that NICO, as Federal Ministry of Information and Culture’s paratatal, was saddled with statutory responsibility of harnessing the country’s rich cultural heritage for development.
He, however, decried the neglect and non-recognition of culture, as roadmap and pillar of sustainable development, saying it has put many nations in dire problems.
He said the conference was organised to sensitise Nigerians to appreciate the critical importance of culture to national growth.
The state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Yemi Olowolabi, who lauded NICO for the conference, advocated indigenous languages as media of instruction across the country.
He urged public relations consultants and traditional rulers to partner on sustainable ways to promote the various cultures in the country.
