Elder of Mambilla Communities Worldwide have cried out to the authorities over alleged moves by Fulani to grab their lands on the Mambilla plateau axis of Taraba State.
Led by Mr. Hamanjoda Nyiwa, the elders, in a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, argued that their fears were based on the decision by Governor Darius Ishaku to constitute another judicial commission of inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice Joel Agya to ascertain whether Maisamari is under Nguroje or Kamkam Chiefdom.
They maintained that the latest attempt to revisit the status of Maisamari called for suspicion since an earlier commission and administrative panel put in place by Ishaku, implicitly and explicitly, defined Maisamari as part of the historical Kamkam territory.
Particularly accusing the governor of working in cahoots with the Fulani to grab their ancestral lands, the elders queried: “Why would the governor want another (third) investigation on the same matter when he had two previous reports on the same status of Maisamari?
“A judicial commission of inquiry and an administrative committee had both investigated and reported to him. This third attempt, pushed forth by the close friend, is obviously an attempt to rubbish the two earlier investigations. If we are looking for a third ‘real status’, what do we call the previous two?”
