Man, 23, shot dead over alleged ballot box snatching
The Plateau State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the killing of a 23-year-old man during the governorship and house of assembly elections in Jos, identified simply as Salim.
“One Salim was shot dead by unknown security operatives during the elections.
“We are not sure of further details but we shall try to find out the circumstances and get back to you,” Mr Emmanuel Abu, Spokesman of the command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Sources told NAN that Salim ran into the voting arena at the Ali Kazaure Polling Unit, grabbed the ballot box and attempted to run away with it.
The source said that security operatives keeping vigil at the polling unit, ran after Salim, arrested him and hurled him into their security vehicle, a Toyota Hilux.
NAN learnt, however, that as they made to move the vehicle, Salim jumped out and started running.
The security operatives were said to have ran after Salim and shot him dead.
