An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ court in Osun State, yesterday, remanded a 33-year-old man, Michael Adeniran, for allegedly defiling a minor.

The defendant was remanded at Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service after his arraignment.

Adeniran had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 18, around 08:30 a.m. at Onagbola Street, Afeki Opa Road, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi told the court the defendant attempted to defile the minor. He added that the Adeniran indecently defiled the girl by romancing and rubbing his manhood on her private part.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 360, 508, and 509 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

But the defence counsel, Mr. Philip Fasanmoye, applied for bail shortly after the defendant’s plea. He also pledged that his client would provide reliable sureties.

The court adjourned till August 2 for consideration of his bail.
MEANWHILE, an 18-year-old boy, Matthew Ajayi, has been arrested by the police in Osun State for burglary.

Ajayi, who was paraded by Osun State Police Command yesterday, said he had been stealing alcohol in stores for four years ago and selling them to another liquor seller in Osogbo.

The teenager, who had been beaten to stupor by those who apprehended him before the intervention of police, disclosed that, “My mother is a teacher while my father is a commercial motorcyclist. I am sorry for stealing. Hunger caused it.”

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, the suspect, a secondary school student, was arrested on Monday, July 26, about 1:30 p.m. after burgling two different shops along the stadium area of Osogbo.

“The suspect will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation,” Opalola said.

Another suspected thief, Sandra Bisong, 16, was also arrested for stealing phones.

Bisong went to steal the phone to pay off a debt after the debtor had seized an android phone he stole sometime.

He was arrested on Monday about 11:45 p.m. by the Commissioner of Police’s surveillance team while on township patrol within the Osogbo metropolis.
