Some men suspected to be members of the vigilante group, Yan Kwamiti, have allegedly tortured 28 years old butcher, identified as Abdulrazak Hassan, to death for buying stolen goat in Wunti Dada area of Bauchi metropolis. The father of the deceased, Sarkin Pawa Wada, said the incident occurred last Friday.

While explaining, he said, “What happened is that I was not at home, but there is this man, the leader of Yan kwamiti called Malam Abbas, who said someone was caught with a goat and taken to their office. So, when they took him to their office, my son was busy in his place of work.”

He said Malam Abbas sent his boys to arrest his son just because they asked the man who stole the goat whether he knew Hassan to which he said he did.

“When they brought him (Hassan) to their office,” Wada continued his narration, “they discussed. I don’t know what they discussed because I was not there, but I learnt that the suspected thief was later released. They called the owner of the goat and returned the goat to him.

“After that, they brought another issue of ram, which my son had no knowledge of. Malam Abbas fined them N10,000, and the other people paid N7,000 and he collected it. Then they killed my son; they carted away his money, his handsets and later brought his corpse to my house but thank God they were seen.”

He added that, “when I came, I quickly rushed to the community leader of Wuntin Dada and informed him about it where he drew the attention of Divisional Police Officer, GRA, to the unfortunate incident. ”

Wada said the DPO swiftly sent his men to ascertain what was happening and they rushed the boy to hospital where he was confirmed dead. His corpse has been released to the family by the police for burial according to Islamic rites.
