Marwa vows justice for officers attacked by mob during drug raid

Marwa reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to global fight against illicit drugs

THE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohamed  Marwa (rtd), has vowed that the federal government will clamp down on criminal syndicates launching violent attacks on anti-narcotics operatives, stating that such actions constitute an assault on the state.

General Marwa stated this during a visit to the National Hospital in Abuja, where two officers of the agency, Ayegh Dooyun Zachariah and Shehu Jamil Ibrahim, are receiving treatment for severe injuries sustained during an operation.

A statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi the officers were assaulted by a violent mob on Friday, 15 May 2026, during a tactical raid on a notorious drug enclave in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),Abuja.

Reviewing the condition of the injured operatives at their bedsides, the NDLEA boss assured them of the management’s total support noting that the agency would take full responsibility for their welfare and medical expenses until their complete recovery.

He said “The Agency will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this cowardly attack are arrested, and brought to justice.

“An attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go unpunished.”

He commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism during the high-risk operation, maintaining that their sacrifices remain invaluable to the national security architecture and the ongoing war against illicit drug trafficking.

To recognize their actions, the NDLEA Chairman presented the operatives with official Letters of Commendation alongside welfare support packages to assist their rehabilitation.

While commending the joint medical teams of the agency and the National Hospital for stabilizing the officers, General Marwa reiterated that the NDLEA remains undeterred by violent resistance from criminal elements and will persist in its mission to dismantle drug cartels nationwide
