Matemilola to succeed Dosunmu as Olowu of Owu Kingdom

Saka Matemilola is set to succeed the late Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu as the 14th paramount ruler of the Owu Kingdom in Ogun State.

Matemilola will be coronated on Saturday, October 29, 2022, to ascend the throne of Owu Kingdom after Dosunmu who died on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Matemilola’s emergence came after a selection among the seven candidates of the ruling houses in Owu and the completion of traditional rites.

He hails from Matemilola’s ruling house in Soke Compound.

The new monarch holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He also bagged a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Matemilola is a stakeholder in the petroleum Industry where he served as a Consultant for Reservoir Engineering at Shell Petroleum industry in Port-Harcourt from 2009 to 2011. He was involved in the establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Geosciences and Petroleum Engineering, the University of Benin in 2011.

He sits on the board of Motus Technology Limited, City Roller Limited and Cypher Crescent Limited. He belongs to the Nigeria Society of Engineers and a Fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society.

Matemilola has contributed to the development of his community by providing water boreholes, feeding the needy, financial and healthcare support, provision of school facilities and other acts of philanthropy.
