Militants blow up NNPC pipeline

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) on Thursday night blow up a gas and crude pipeline operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) near  Warri.

“At 11:45pm on Thursday @NDAvengers blew up other #NNPC Gas and Crude trunkline close to Warri,” the group said on its Twitter account, a medium it has adopted to communicate its activities in recent times.

The latest attack came less than 48 hours after the group claimed responsibilities for an attack on Chevron’s Escravos pipeline.

The militants had attacked Chevron’s valve platform, an offshore oil facility located near Escravos in Abiteye, Warri South West Local Council of Delta State, forcing the company to shut in crude oil output from some fields in the western Niger Delta and critical gas supply to thermal power stations in the country.

The Avengers had given oil companies in the region till the end of the month to stop operations or face more attacks.
