Director General, Nigeria’s Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Obadiah Simon Nkom, has disclosed that the mining cadastre generated N2.016 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2021.

Director General, Nigeria’s Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), Obadiah Simon Nkom, has disclosed that the mining cadastre generated N2.016 billion revenue in the first quarter of 2021.

Nkom disclosed this during a media interaction with journalist, yesterday, in Abuja.

He said N1.15 billion revenue was generated in 2016, N2.13 billion in 2017, N1.55 billion in 2018, N2.58 billion in 2019, N2.303 billion in 2020 and N2.016 billion from January to May 2021.

He noted that the office is in the process of transiting from SIGTIM database operations to eMC+ web-based cadastre system of online Mineral Title applications processing.

He said: “I took over as the Director General of Nigeria’s Mining Cadastre in 12 January 2019. This is my third year. When I took over in 2019, in the area of revenue, we generated the highest ever since the establishment of Nigeria’s mining cadastre.

“And when COVID-19 came in 2020 there was little or no activity. But yet, one could equally beat his chest to say we were able to generate over two billion naira, which became the third highest, since the establishment of Nigeria Mining Cadastre.”

He added: “In 2021, we have plans and as I speak, we have already exceeded the 2 billion mark, because the highest revenue we have generated in terms of mining cadastre is more than 50 per cent of the entire sector of the ministry.”
