The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire has promised to hasten the allocation of Oxygen plant to support the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), to ensure that Nigeria wins the war against COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minister who spoke in Lagos yesterday, during a facility tour of LUTH noted that the Federal Government has decided to support all the states with one oxygen plant each, as oxygen remains the major facility that would help to win the war against the pandemic.

Ehanire noted that the gesture was to ensure that nobody travels more than 50 kilometres while looking for oxygen to treat COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: ”I have heard the testimonies of people who have come here for COVID-19 treatment that they were treated perfectly and I am very happy, but there is always more to do. And so I’m very happy to see for myself here today, and I shall use the opportunity to visit the displays, again, at another location.”

Ehanire said the challenge posed by the pandemic today is not limited to Nigeria, but the world as a whole, as the pandemic has shook many countries, and has brought many countries health systems to their knees. “Many countries have been embarrassed, if you look at CNN or even BBC you’ll be shocked to see what is going on in some countries are really embarrassing. And we, Nigerians are struggling to make sure that our own health system doesn’t get embarrassed.”

On his part, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Chris Bode said the hospital is committed to changing the dilapidated structures in the hospital before her 60th anniversary next year.
