A mother of two simply identified as Iya Korede has allegedly committed suicide in Osogbo, Osun State capital. Iya Korede, said to be in her late 30s, was discovered lifeless in her apartment situated at Awosuru Street, Alekuwodo area of Osogbo.

When our correspondent visited the deceased’s home at about 12noon yesterday, mourners, including relations, were seen at the front of the house. The younger brother to the deceased who spoke with The Guardian refused to give his name. He said Iya Korede had gone to bed on Tuesday night before he discovered her lifeless body inside her room.

The deceased’s younger brother, said to be a shoe repairer, is living in the same ‘face me and face you’ apartment with Iya Korede. He said: “She slept and did not wake up again,” adding that the deceased had been buried yesterday according to Islamic rites.

When asked what could have led to Iya Korede’s death, he declined to comment, but in a chat with some residents of the area, Iya Korede was said to have been discovered dead on a noose yesterday morning.

Sources said she might have taken her life over debts. Some people were said to have visited Iya Korede’s apartment to demand for the payments of their debts.

The deceased, who hailed from Otan-Ile in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, was a teacher at Al-Imam Nursery and Primary School at Awosuru, Alekuwodo area of Osogbo before her unfortunate death. Her first son is aged 15 while the second child is 12 years old.
