Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kebbi State, Salihu Nataro, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider reconstituting his cabinet if they cannot convince Nigerians of their stewardship.
He noted that since democracy is a collective responsibility, the president’s ministers and appointees should be at the grassroots explaining the measures taken by the administration in the last four years.
Nataro, who was reacting to media criticism of Tinubu’s decision to attend his re-election rallies in only 12 states, argued that such discussion would not have arisen at all if the appointees had kept in touch with the people.
Nevertheless, he contended that if the president was prepared to condone his ministers, he should have to defend his mandate.
He added that, having been a strong ally of the president, he has been canvassing a review of his economic policies to engage local entrepreneurs to invest heavily in Nigeria.
Nataro, who is also a public sector reform advocate, said that though the president listens in some cases, especially on the economy, his insistence on retaining his cabinet and aides remains a minus.
Nataro criticised the appointees and state governors for their habit of spending huge government revenue on papers without the money going to the designated projects or intended purposes, thereby making it difficult to market the president.
According to him, “the greed of the appointees, including the state governors, is making Nigerians develop hatred for the administration. It is very difficult for most of the appointees to figure out or locate the concerns of Tinubu’s supporters because they are power-drunk.”
