The Nigerian Navy has said its operations in the Niger Delta are yielding positive results with the increased oil productions in the region. According to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, oil companies in the area have been reporting 100 per cent terminal factor in the last few months.

Ogalla stated this at the 2024 Ceremonial Sunset/ Dinner and Awards Night organised by the Nigerian Navy at the Naval Training Command, Ebubu Eleme in Rivers State.

The Naval Chief recalled that it launched Operation Delta Sanity in January this year, noting that the operation has recorded good success as several vessels and persons involved in illegal oil bunkering and other maritime crimes were arrested.

Ogalla noted that this year, the Navy got involved in more operations in collaboration with sister organisations in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

He said the use of helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles also aided its operations. He said the reported increase in oil production is indicative of the fact that pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft has drastically reduced in the Niger Delta region.
Ogalla also said that they have redoubled efforts in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, thereby ensuring economic success of the nation.

Commenting, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, commended the achievements of the Navy in the passing year, especially in the area of maritime security and fight against illegal oil bunkering. He pledged that the government of Rivers State will continue to support the Navy to perform its statutory duties.

“It has not been an easy system, not just for the Navy but for our country, especially when we are faced with the devil that we are all working to overcome, such as oil bunkering, vandalisation of pipelines and others.”
