Navy arrests five, seizes 370 bags of smuggled rice in A’Ibom community
The Nigerian Navy (NN), Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka in Mbo Local Council of Akwa Ibom State, has arrested five suspects and seized 370 bags of smuggled rice.
Commanding Officer, FOB, Captain Toritseju Vincent, who spoke with journalists yesterday in Ibaka during the handover of the suspects and the smuggled 370 bags of 50kg rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said that, in recent times, the Navy had made consistent arrests of illegally-smuggled rice in line with its anti-smuggling patrol functions.
The Chief Superintendent of NCS, Akwa Ibom State, Olutola John, while receiving the suspects and the seized goods, commended the Navy for supporting them in the discharge of their duties.
He promised that the Customs would continue to support the Navy in the drive to end smuggling on the waterways, and that upon the completion of investigations, the suspects would be charged to court.
