Nekpen, suffering from heart ailment, seeks N3.7m for corrective surgery in India

Six-year-old Miss Nekpen Aibuedefe, who is suffering from a congenital heart condition, Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is seeking financial assistance from kindhearted Nigerians to enable her undergo a corrective surgery in India at a cost of N3.7 million.

Nekpen was diagnosed of the disease at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she is being managed since 2013. Doctors said the surgery can also be carried out in the country but only at the University Teaching Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, at a lower cost of N2.5 million.

Parents of the girl are pleading for financial help from the public to give Nekpen a new lease of life either in the country or abroad. Mr. Osaretin Efe Aibuedefe, the girls’ father, is a journalist working with the government-owned Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS).

He said he has made several appeals for assistance to the state government, including the immediate past and present governors of the state, without any response.

“We wrote to Ex- Gov. Oshiomhole nothing came out of it. About two months ago, we wrote to Gov. Obaseki as well as the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG) Barr. Osarodion Ogie . Till now no response and the child is having continuous crisis on a daily basis.This has put as in very serious financial crisis. We as we fear for her life and call on good Nigerians to save our child .We do not want to lose her to this health condition.We know God can save help life through many God fearing and kind hearted person through the financial support. Ever since this whole thing started, she is always going on admission in UBTH. This year alone, she has been admitted thrice with oxygen to the rescue each time. We can no longer hide this as the burden is becoming heavier for us by the day. We therefore, appeal to well meaning Nigerians, Government and corporate bodies in the spirit of this Yuletide and the new year to come to our rescue towards saving the life of this child who God has destined to live because some of her mates they started treatment together have since died. ” the distraught father pleaded.
