Markets to be shut today for coronation

The lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Teslim Folarin, yesterday, said that the newly-elected Olubadan of Ibadanland, Dr. Lekan Balogun, would reign as an unprecedented Ibadan king, whose period would definitely attract unparalleled developments to the city.

In a statement to commemorate Balogun’s installation today, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, said the new Olubadan would achieve a lot being the first accomplished educationist, successful politician, seasoned administrator and well-exposed personality to ascend the throne.

“On behalf Baale Royal Family and the good people of Oyo Central Senatorial District, I convey our best wishes to Your Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator (Dr.) Lekan Balogun on the auspicious occasion of your coronation as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland today.

“Kabiyesi, your peaceful ascension to the throne of your forefathers is divine. I am confident that you will leverage on your wealth of experience, innovative ideas, honour, dignity and glorious strides to advance the cause of the people of Ibadan, Oyo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large.

“As we celebrate your ascension to the revered royal throne, I pray your reign brings enormous blessings to the people of Ibadan, Oyo State and indeed the entire nation,” he prayed.

HOWEVER, the Babaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaji Asiwaju Yekini Abass Oladapo, yesterday, said that all markets in Ibadan metropolis should be closed today, Friday, March 11, 2022 in honour of the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Aliiwo-Okunmade II.

Abass said the markets would be closed to avoid traffic congestion and honour the new monarch. He said all markets should open for business by the end of Jumat when all major activities would have ended.
