Miyetti Allah means “I thank God” in Fulfulde. Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (sometimes also called MACBAN). They are however popularly known and called “Miyetti Allah”. This Miyetti Allah group is a loose partisan advocacy group centered on promoting the welfare of Fulani pastoralists in Nigeria.

The Miyetti Allah group represents the interests of about 100,000 semi-nomads and nomads in the country. The group was an advocacy group for Fulani herders for many decades. One vital function of the Miyetti Allah group is that the group is involved in liaising with the government on behalf of pastoralists, land use rights, nomadic education and conflict resolution between pastoralists and farmers.

Many have clamored for this group to be scraped but it will interest you to know that one fundamental reason why this group has remained untouchable in Nigeria is because the Miyetti Allah group have served as grand patrons of the association are President Buhari and his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

Interestingly, According to Wikipedia, the Miyetti Allah/MACBAN’s board of trustees is always led by a powerful Sultan (the Sultan of Sokoto), and it receives funding from the board and other donors. The national and zonal chairmen are elected every four years. These chairmen enjoy several relationships and Benefits from Government, powerful politicians, secruity forces and powers during their reigns as chairmen. When the group was founded it received support from Sultan Abubakar III, Aminu, Emir Zazzau, Usman Nagogo, the Emir of Katsina and Ado Bayero, late Emir of Kano.

The emirs of these emirates compose a part of the group’s board of trustees,” MIYETTI ALLAH/MACBAN majorly has to do with nomads and semi-nomads. However, it may interest you to know that some persons have continued to use nomads and butchers concomitantly because they sort of connect.

Their activities interwoven. Why some continue to say Butchers or meat sellers association and cattle Breeders are both major in meat selling business. It may interest you to know that the Chairmen of these different group enjoys relationships with powerful and mighty politicians, top police officers, government support and relationships. These two groups are one of the oldest groups in Nigeria.

These groups have continued to be relevant in Nigeria because of the role they play in providing meats to households on a daily basis, alongside their huge financial donation services both cash and kind to politicians during campaigns. Unfortnately, the Association is faced with problem of ranching.

Although, Government hope to find lasting solution to the ranching problem in no distant time, it is also hoped that these herdsmen issue soon become a thing of the past and so we can together we all can live happily as one Big and United Nation.
