Nigeria police, Chinese envoy target safer maritime corridors for foreign businesses

The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police Western Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja has engaged the Chinese Consulate in Lagos as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Chinese business community operating within Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The Commissioner of Police who paid a courtesy visit to the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement between both institutions.

Agbaminoja engaged in fruitful discussions with the Consul General and other officials of the Chinese Consulate on issues of mutual interest, particularly those relating to port security, maritime security, and the safety of Chinese nationals and businesses operating within Nigeria’s seaports and logistics corridors.

The Commissioner of Police, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a secure and conducive environment for legitimate business activities within the ports.

She emphasised that the Ports Authority Police remains steadfast in its mandate to safeguard critical maritime infrastructure, prevent criminal activities, and enhance the overall security architecture of the nation’s ports.

Discussions also focused on strengthening information sharing, capacity building, and addressing emerging security concerns that may impact trade facilitation and maritime commerce.

On her part, the Consul General, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Ports Authority Police Western Command, in ensuring the safety and security of port users, Chinese nationals, and foreign investors.

Yuqing reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in promoting peace, security and economic development.
