Akwa Ibom PDP seeks opposition’s support to develop state
The Akwa Ibom State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the opposition parties to join hands with Governor Udom Emmanuel in developing both the human capacity and economic endowments of the state.
State Chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo gave the charge at a media briefing after the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling, saying the judgement showed that only God reigns in the affairs of men.
His words: “The PDP is not having problem with anyone as the state belongs to all. The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people.”
He said the tribunal as constituted by the laws of the land confirmed the divinely orchestrated, politically engineered and electorally delivered mandate of Governor Udom.
Ekpo added that the judgment agreed with contemporary political reality in our state, saying: “It is not a judgement that postulated on what ought to be, but a clear admission of what was and what is.
“Today, with the tribunal’s delivery of its judgement, we thank God for numerous victories. We were told that we could not and will not win the elections, but because no man can conclude a matter God has not concluded, the elections went our way.
“They said they will upturn our victory at the tribunal and we questioned who is he that says a thing and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded it?
“Our disposition was to approach God and the tribunal has not only given judgement in our favour, but the chairman and members of the panel have said severally in court that our state is peaceful and our people very accommodating.
“This is in contradistinction with the picture painted by the main opposition party in the state. While we thank God Almighty for the victory, we also thank the people who God used as vessels of honour to manifest HIS will in our state.”
