Edo pledges support for women, launches farm project

The Edo State Government has pledged to revive the state economy through a commitment to drive agricultural rebirth as it launched the ‘Plant, Nurture, Eat—Edo Girls’ Farm Project for the empowerment of young girls in Agriculture.

The commitment was made by the Office of the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), led by Miss Sally Suleiman.

According to Sally, the initiative aims to equip young girls with practical agricultural skills, instilling values of patience, responsibility, and self-sufficiency while contributing to food security and environmental sustainability.

The project was launched under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo to commemorate International Women’s Day, Sally said.

Sally added that the project aligned with the Governor’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises agriculture as a key driver of economic transformation.

“By engaging young girls in hands-on farming, the initiative not only fosters youth empowerment but also supports critical United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Gender Equality (SDG 5),” she said.

“The Plant, Nurture, Eat project underscores the state’s commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices while empowering the next generation of female leaders in agribusiness.

“Through this initiative, Edo State seeks to build a more food-secure future while ensuring that young girls are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the agricultural sector.”
