The Adamawa State Police Command is investigating six youths arrested during a joint security operation in Lamurde local government council where a gunshot incident was reported.

In a statement on Friday made available to media men in the state by the command’s spokesman, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the arrests, according to police, were made amid intensified patrols aimed at preventing further escalation of tensions linked to the Chobo/Bachama communal unrest.

According to the police, gunshots were heard around midnight between February 15 and 16, 2026, behind Cottage Hospital in Kunduli, Tingno, Lamurde LGA.

Security operatives on patrol reportedly encountered a group of young men in the area. The suspects allegedly verbally abused the officers and made provocative remarks, leading to their immediate arrest.

The six suspects have been identified as Abiola Ayuba, 27; Mark Yakubu, 22; Yamauyinzin Elias, 18; Gabriel Danladi, 22; Yunarwe Barnabas, 21; and Japheth Agai, 20.

They have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola for further questioning.

Police said investigations are ongoing to determine their possible involvement in the gunshot incident and any connection to the communal disturbances in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and order in Lamurde and surrounding communities.
