Again army rescues kidnap victim in Taraba

The Nigerian Army has rescued a kidnapped man in Taraba State following sustained search-and-rescue operations by troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

The Commander of the Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jalingo, where he also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting military operations with timely and credible information.

According to the statement, troops deployed to Dogon-Gawa area of Takum Local Government Area rescued the victim on Jan. 27, 2026, after intensive operations within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

Uwa said the troops, while conducting ongoing search-and-rescue operations, sighted and rescued a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his captors. The victim was later identified as Mr. Ghali.

He explained that investigations revealed Mr. Ghali and another victim, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on Jan. 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State, adding that their driver was killed during the incident.

The commander said Mr. Ghali was immediately debriefed after his rescue, provided with necessary medical care, and reunited with his family.

Commending the troops for their tenacity, courage and professionalism, Uwa assured that military operations in the area would be further intensified to ensure the rescue of the remaining victim and the arrest of the perpetrators.

The statement, signed by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Lt. Umar Mohammad, noted that the successful rescue underscores the gallantry, professionalism, and commitment of the troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, to the protection of lives and property.

Uwa reaffirmed that the Brigade remains determined to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace to the region.
