Armoured cable vandal electrocuted in Jigawa

An underground power cable suspected vandal was electrocuted while he was trying to steal armoured cables at the State Secretariat, New Complex in Dutse, Jigawa State.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 10:00 am on Wednesday, and the matter was reported to the police by officials from the state’s Ministry of Works.

Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Adam, confirmed in a statement that officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified male beneath a concrete slab covering high-voltage electrical cables.

Preliminary findings suggest the individual died from electrocution while tampering with the installation.

“The body, already in a state of decomposition, was evacuated to Dutse General Hospital for further examination,” SP Shiisu said.

The police condemned the act and issued a strong warning about the dangers of tampering with live electrical infrastructure.

“This tragic incident underscores the fatal risks of vandalising power installations. The public is strongly advised to avoid such unlawful and life-threatening activities,” the command stated.

Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
