Bandits kill four in Plateau
The people of Daika Community of Panyam District of Mangu local government area of Plateau State were thrown into confusion, pain, and mourning on Sunday when gunmen suspected to be armed militia killed a young man aged 30 years.
A resident of Daika, Mr. Christopher Luka, confirmed that the deceased, the late Fwangshak Lesun, was returning from Mangu to Daika but was confronted, shot and killed instantly around 8:30 pm.
Where the incident took place is close to Mangu – Daika bridge after the cottage hospital, Luka explained, adding that the deceased was buried at Daika on Monday morning amidst wailings.
Also, on Monday around 6:05 am (4/11/24) at a very remote yet-to-be-named settlement after the Toro local government area of Bauchi State, one Mohammed Toro, aged 78, was hacked down and died immediately.
Toro was said to be coming from where about 10 of them gathered to pray the Al–Azir prayers (morning prayers) when three men halted and killed him.
“The settlement does not have light as some settlers there out of boldness and bravery just settled there as first settlers not minding the repercussion of their actions. About 100 kilometres from Toro,” Toro said.
The Guardian learnt that the gunmen knew the deceased well, tracing him from Toro council just to kill him for his nefarious activities while in Toro.
Ismaila Kudu told The Guardian that they had buried the deceased in the bush without any trace of the bandits.
Gunmen have killed Honourable Yusuf Adamu Gagdi’s mother–in–law and brother–in–law in Plateau State. Gagdi is a current member of the House of Representatives representing Pankshin, Kanam, Kanke constituencies in the National Assembly.
Those killed by the unknown gunmen are Gagdi’s mother–in–law, Mrs. Mary Jonathan, and her son, Mark Jonathan in Plateau State.
Gagdi confirmed the unfortunate incident to journalists on Monday and said that the victims are his mother–in–law and brother–in–law.
The deceased were murdered in Hwollaza in Zaria Road, Jos, and were laid to rest in Jos at the weekend.
Gagdi described the murder as too violent and senseless acts.
“Today, alongside my wife Jemimah, we laid to rest her mother, Mrs. Mary Jonathan, and our brother (her son) Mark Jonathan who were tragically taken away from us by violent and senseless acts.
“We honour their memories, pray and seek justice. Rest well, Mama and Brother Mark. May God Almighty expose the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Gagdi said.
“It is appointed unto every soul to taste death but yours, regrettably, came through the barrel of some trigger-happy men of the underworld. Nothing would have captured the vanity of human existence better than your son and my brother, Mr. Mark Jonathan.”
