The world is coming to Kano, beginning with the commissioning this November 2022 of the 2100-shops Coordinated Wholesale Centre Complex; that will house businesses of all pharmaceutical products in Kano, the GSM-ICT section, the Textile Market, Trailer Park and Container Terminal.

These specialized trade segments are part of the larger Kano Economic City (KEC) being developed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between the Kano State Government and Brains and Hammers Limited. Under the agreed terms, the state government provides a 117-hectares land, while the company develops the project and sells to the investing public.

Explaining the vision, Mr. Ibrahim Bako, the Director of Brains and Hammers, in-charge of the Kano Economic City said, “What we have set-out to do by establishing the Kano Economic City is to supply businesses with access to international trade services and facilities in order to make the processes simple and generate more energetic trading activities by bridging the gap between offices of government and the industries by bringing them together in one place. That is the concept of a World Trade Centre and it is instructive that we are fire up to do this at this time when a Nigerian, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the head of the World Trade Organization.”

The project will be executed in three phases; with the first and second phases dominated by shops, warehouses and world-class GSM village; while Phase Three includes a state-of-the-art conference centre, petrol stations, hotels and malls. The Phase One which includes CWC, GSM, Trailer Park, warehouses and Container Terminal among others is ready for commissioning.

Mr. Bako showered a lot of praises on Jaiz Bank Plc for believing in the project from the beginning and staying the course. “Jaiz has even opened a functional branch inside the KEC to demonstrate the extent of its commitment.

Although there has been a recent change of baton in the leadership of the bank, the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Jaiz Bank, Dr. Sirajo Salisu is very familiar with the project and we are confident that we continue to enjoy a very good working relationship with him.”

The location of the Kano Economic City confers on it the status of the most accessible market in the whole of Nigeria.

Kano Economic City is located on the intersection of Zaria Road, Kano Eastern Bypass and Western Bypass. Zaria Road is Kano state’s gateway to the southern part of Nigeria. Kano Western Bypass gives an unhindered connection to Katsina, Daura and Niger republic while the Eastern Bypass takes one to the road that leads to North Eastern Nigeria generally.
