The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Kingsley Ugochukwu, for unlawful possession of a firearm.
The arrest was made on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after officers of the Buffalo Tactical Command raided a suspected cult hotspot in Ogwashi–Ukwu, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
According to the spokesperson for the state command, DSP Bright Edafe, Ugochukwu was apprehended after he was found in possession of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with 9mm ammunition.
The arrest was confirmed in a video shared via Edafe’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter), recorded at the Anti-Kidnapping Squad Unit in Asaba on Monday.
“Two days ago, our operatives, whom we call the Buffalo Tactical Command, got actionable intelligence about cult-related activity in Ogwashi–Ukwu,” Edafe said. “On arrival, one of the suspects at the scene attempted to dispose of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol. Our men recovered the weapon and ammunition.”
Following his arrest and interrogation, police investigations revealed that Ugochukwu had instructed his wife to get rid of another firearm — a double-barreled gun — which he allegedly kept at home.
“We received intelligence that the suspect had reached out to his wife and asked her to dispose of another weapon,” Edafe added. “Our team moved to their residence and brought her in for questioning.
Although she initially denied it, she later confessed that her husband told her to discard the gun
in an uncompleted building near their home. Our officers recovered the double-barreled gun and two live cartridges from that location.”
During police questioning, Ugochukwu admitted ownership of the pistol and confirmed giving instructions to his wife to discard the other firearm.
“My name is Ugochukwu Kingsley,” he said. “The pistol was recovered from the site where I work in Ogwashi–Ukwu. It is mine. I told my wife to check my room for ‘anything’ because the police were coming. I told her to throw the gun away.
I am from Isaiagwu, Aniocha South.”
The police have since commenced further investigations into the origin of the firearms and the suspect’s links to any criminal networks.
