For Precious Mathew, the pain of losing her baby after a Caesarean Section was compounded by a hospital bill she could not afford to pay.
 
But what began as a desperate search for help ended with an unexpected act of kindness after the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, intervened in the matter.
 
Precious, a resident of Ogooluwa area behind Owode Market, Owode-Yewa, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division on September 13, 2026, over an outstanding hospital bill incurred after she underwent a Caesarean Section at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, Owode-Yewa, on June 30.
 
Sadly, her baby did not survive.

The total bill for the treatment was N400,000. Having paid N100,000, Precious was left with a balance of N300,000, an amount she was unable to raise.
 
Rather than allow the situation to escalate, the matter was brought to the attention of Ojajuni, who intervened and contacted the medical doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, appealing to him to consider the woman’s circumstances.
 
The appeal changed everything.

After hearing Precious’s story, Dr Samuel voluntarily waived the entire N300,000 outstanding bill, allowing the bereaved woman to leave without the financial burden hanging over her.
 
There was no confrontation or recrimination. Instead, a police intervention created room for dialogue, while the doctor responded with compassion to a woman already dealing with the devastating loss of her child.
 
The Ogun State Police Command subsequently expressed appreciation to Dr Samuel for his humanity and generosity.
 
For Precious, the N300,000 was more than an unpaid hospital bill. It was another burden added to the grief of losing her baby.
But through the intervention of the police and the generosity of the doctor, that burden was lifted.
 
In a situation that could easily have ended in distress, Precious found help where she least expected it—at a police station, and ultimately, through the compassion of the doctor who chose to forgive her debt.
