
A 40-FOOT loaded container fell onto a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ yesterday at Mile 2 en route to Apapa in Lagos State.
The car driver was rescued alive thanks to the swift response of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency services, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LRU).
The Guardian learnt that the victim received immediate medical attention after being rushed to the hospital by the joint rescue team.
Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided security to ensure a seamless rescue operation.
The Toyota Camry was successfully extricated from beneath the container following the incident. Efforts to remove the container were ongoing, with LASTMA officials working to manage traffic and restore normalcy to the area.
Speaking on the incident, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasised the importance of properly securing containers by truck drivers and owners. He warned that negligence poses severe risks to lives and property and urged adherence to road safety protocols to prevent such accidents.
Bakare-Oki reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to ensuring safety and efficiency on Lagos roads and pledged continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic regulations and safeguard the public.
