Final burial for Lawal holds Saturday

The final burial ceremony for Alhaji Jimoh Atanda Lawal, the Aare Mayegun of Gbagura Land, Abeokuta and co-founder of Nigeria’s leading out-of-home advertising agency, Abiok Publicity Limited, will be held on Saturday in Lagos.

The ceremony will take place at LTV 8 Blue Roof, Plot 1, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Lagos, starting at 11:00a.m.

He passed away on February 16, 2026 and was buried on February 17, 2026, following Islamic rites.

The 8th day Fidau prayer was conducted on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at his home in Mongoro, Agege, Lagos.

Lawal, who co-founded Abiok Publicity Limited in 1976 and revolutionised the entire outdoor advertising media landscape in Nigeria, was celebrated for his discipline, resilience, thirst for knowledge, loyalty and humanity.

His journey from a carpentry apprentice to one of Nigeria’s most respected advertising practitioners and community leaders and philanthropists, is a testament to his commitment to higher virtues and belief in human capacity potential.

He was also a co- founder of Jimmy Kay Ventures, a real estate and hospitality business and Ogun News Today, a community -based newspaper in Ogun State.

A registered member of the Advertising Practitioner Council of Nigeria (APCON), Lawal was also a member of various professional and social clubs in Nigeria, including the Abeokuta Sports Club, Egba Notable Club, Lagos Prestige Brothers and Top Social Club of Mushin, Lagos among others.
His contributions to community development were honoured with several traditional titles.

Lawal was known as a teacher of humanity, kind and a great father to his children and grandchildren. He was humble, gentle, honest and principled. His exemplary life and contributions to the advertising industry, religion, humanity and community development will be greatly remembered.

Born on June 15, 1943, in Pataleri Village, Wasimi, Ogun State, Lawal attended St. Peter School Mosan, Ogun State.

He began his advertising career at West African Publicity Limited, later known as Afromedia Nigeria Limited.

Due to his dedication, market intelligence, and creativity, he was recruited by Pan Publicity Limited in 1963. He was later transferred to their Kano office in 1964 to establish their northern region office, contributing significantly to the company’s growing up the northern market.

A devout Muslim, Lawal performed the  Holy Pilgrimage in 1981 and actively supported the  propagation of Islamic ideals.

He held various religious titles and was known as  Asiwaju Adeen of Mafoluku Central Mosque.
