Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed when fire engulfed ten shops at the Central Market in Katsina State.

The fire, which occurred on Monday at about 6:34 p.m., was allegedly caused by a solar-powered inverter.

The Katsina State Fire Service said it received a distress call, prompting firefighters to swiftly mobilise to the scene to contain the blaze.

According to the agency, the fire affected 10 shops dealing in groceries, drinks, curtains and fabrics.

Firefighters, however, succeeded in saving seven other shops and prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining sections of the market.

The service added that shops numbered 112 to 114, along with property contained in them, including a Peugeot 406 car, were successfully salvaged.

However, shops numbered 128 to 130 were completely razed by the fire. No life was lost in the incident.
