A four-bedroom apartment was gutted by fire on Sunday evening in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Guardian Newspaper discovered that the entire building, including all the property, was consumed.

According to eyewitnesses, the Ita-Elepa fire outbreak started at about 8:52 p.m. on Ifesowapo Street, Ilorin.

The spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, said the inferno was caused by a power surge.

He said: “On Sunday, 16th February 2025, at about 20:52 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at Ita-Elepa, Ifesowapo Street, Ilorin.

“The fire crew responded swiftly and arrived to find a four-bedroom flat engulfed in flames. Despite their exceptional efforts to contain the fire and prevent its spread to nearby buildings, the entire structure was affected due to the late alert.

“Preliminary investigations identified a power surge as the cause of the fire,” he recalled.

The owner of the house, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Olesin, lamented that the building was completely razed, with all the property therein destroyed.

Olesin, who is the head of the Department of Social Studies at the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, appealed to the state government for financial support.
