A section of the General Hospital, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos State, was razed by fire on Thursday.

According to an eyewitness, the fire started from the nurses’ call room before spreading to some other parts of the hospital.

“The fire then spread to the prenatal and postnatal rooms, after which it affected the pediatric ward,” the eyewitness said.

There have also been concerns that babies and nursing mothers might be trapped in the three-storey building, although, The Guardian cannot yet confirm any casualties.

Firefighters were later seen arriving at the scene to put out the fire.
