An early morning fire yesterday gutted a residential building in Ibadan, Oyo State, leaving six rooms severely damaged. The incident occurred at Akinsoji Zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji area of the city. Although properties were destroyed, no lives were lost.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said firemen were promptly dispatched to the scene after the agency received a distress call.
“As soon as we received the call, firemen led by CFS Adesina Olusoji were promptly deployed to the location. On arrival, it was discovered that a private residential building with six rooms was engulfed in flames. Our men acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings,” he stated.
Akinwande explained that no casualties were recorded, adding that preliminary investigations revealed the fire was caused by the careless disposal of a cigarette stub by one of the occupants. The stub reportedly ignited flammable materials, triggering the blaze.
He further noted that while the building sustained severe damage, the swift intervention of firefighters saved properties worth millions of naira from being lost.
