A two-year-old girl was recovered after falling into a well in the Sango Saki area of the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State. The incident occurred at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, Sango, Saki.

It was reported that the child had been trapped inside the well for a significant period before being recovered by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Saki Zonal Command.

The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident yesterday, stating that an emergency call was received at Saki Fire Station at exactly 1:43 p.m.

He added, “Our officers, led by PFS11 Saka, promptly responded to the scene. On arrival, we were informed that a two-year-old girl had been inside the well for a long time. Using our rescue equipment, CFM Adediran Jacob entered the well and carried out the search-and-rescue operation.”

The girl was retrieved and handed over to a police team led by CSP Odunbanjo Kehinde for further action. Akinwande stated that the cause of the incident is unknown and that the Fire Service Post-Incident Investigation Team (PIIT) is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event.

He urged the public to ensure that wells and septic pits are securely covered to prevent them from becoming potential death traps.
