The Kayode Michael Arimoro Foundation (KMAF) has called on the kingmakers of Ijeshaland, Osun State, to exercise wisdom and foresight in appointing the next OwaObokun of Ijeshaland.

The foundation emphasised the importance of selecting a young successor with the vision, drive, exposure, and charisma to preserve the town’s values, heritage, and aspirations.

The foundation’s statement follows the demise of the OwaObokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, who died last month at 87. KMAF acknowledged the late monarch’s contributions to developing Ijeshaland, praising his legacy of service, dedication, and commitment to peace and unity.

In a statement signed by its Director of Communication, DipoOluyemi, the foundation stressed that the kingmakers should be allowed to fulfil their duties in selecting the new OwaObokun. The statement highlighted the need for a young leader who can continue to guide Ijeshaland towards prosperity.

“The revered monarch left behind a good legacy, exemplary service, and unparalleled commitment to the peace and unity of people across the globe,” Oluyemi noted. He also pointed to the historical significance of the OwaObokun throne, which has long been a symbol of unity and strength in the community.

“In 1896, Prince FarotimiOkunade, a.k.a. Arimoro, a great prince and warrior son of OwaOfokutu, recommended his younger kin to ascend the throne, recognising that the OwaObokun is always a beacon of unity and strength,” Oluyemi added.

KMAF further urged the kingmakers to adhere to the principles of fair rotation within the OwaBilaro family, ensuring that the selection process reflects the collective spirit of the community, characterised by unity, courage, and enlightenment.

“Dialogue should be prioritised to foster cooperation among all members of the OwaBilaro Ruling House, creating an atmosphere of peace during this crucial period. We call upon all community members to engage in respectful discussions and to act with patience and decorum as Ijeshaland navigates this critical transition,” the foundation stated.

KMAF also encouraged all stakeholders to come together in honour of Oba Aromolaran’s legacy, urging them to seek a leader with a proven track record and the capacity to lead Ijeshaland into a prosperous future for its sons and daughters.
