Again, gunmen have killed two persons, including an 82-year-old man, in separate attacks on communities in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as 82-year-old Demi Duda and 19-year-old Emmanuel Chinge.
One other person was reportedly injured and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed location.
The Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM) which disclosed this in a statement yesterday alleged that the attacks were carried out by gunmen within 24 hours.
In the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, the group said Emmanuel Chinge was killed on Sunday at Nche-tahu in Nkien-whie District of Irigwe Chiefdom in Bassa.
It added that in the early hours of Monday, between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., another attack occurred in Kurudu, Jebbu Miango, where Demi Duda was killed while another resident sustained injuries.
The group expressed concern over what it described as the deteriorating security situation in Irigwe land, alleging that repeated attacks were threatening lives and destroying farms, resulting in economic hardship.
The movement called for support and prayers for communities in Irigwe land and other parts of Plateau State affected by insecurity.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
